Liechtenstein suffered a major cyberattack in which hackers accessed the country’s confidential registry of foundations and trusts, exposing data linked to around 31,000 entities. The stolen information included beneficial owners’ names, birth dates, nationalities, and places of residence. The attackers have not been identified and no ransom demand has been made. Prime Minister Brigitte Haas said Liechtenstein would not pay a ransom if one were demanded. The government is investigating the incident and working with financial institutions and neighboring Switzerland to strengthen cybersecurity and restore confidence in the country’s financial center. Despite the breach, officials plan to keep the beneficial-owner registry online.
