The University of Lagos (UNILAG) is under investigation by Nigeria’s Data Protection Commission (NDPC) over allegations that students’ personal data was used to open bank accounts without a lawful basis. The investigation will assess how UNILAG collected, processed, shared, and protected students’ information, including its privacy notices, data-sharing arrangements, data retention, and compliance with the Nigeria Data Protection Act, 2023.
